UM Student Viewbooks
For 2019-2020, approximately 27,000 viewbooks (Domestic and Indigenous) were printed and uploaded online for prospective University of Manitoba students to promote UM’s programs, offerings, and opportunities. A tri-fold International Brochure design was was updated and offered to international prospective students. My role while working on the viewbooks was to design the covers, develop student profile features, update inside spreads and charts, and provide art direction during photo sessions.
2019 Viewbooks
In previous years, the Student Engagement partner area showed a strong desire for the viewbooks to showcase a special treatment on its covers. Alongside Karen Niedzwiecki, Manager of Design and Creative, we collaborated with our printer and production coordinators to deliver an impactful, cost-effective option. After some back-and-forth and print testing, we settled on a foil-stamp treatment on "University of Manitoba" which met the goals of our brand and the partner area's goals of impact.
A bold, foil treatment on both viewbooks provided a unique finish to the minimalist line drawing of a campus space.
Indigenous student viewbooks were created for prospective Indigenous students with a focus on Indigenous community, culture, and resources.
Some student profile images required art directed photo sessions with external photographer David Lipnowski. Profiles required a mix of coordinating photo sessions, using supplied images, and sourcing imagery online.
Viewbook interior spreads required varying levels of design, content, and imagery updates from previous years.

2020 Viewbooks
For this iteration, covers were adapted from the previous year to show minimalist UM spaces, and incorporated the updated brand identity colour palette. The new brand evolution was currently being rolled out, so the executive decision was made to update the covers and specific pages to the new brand, while keeping many interior pages the same. The new brand palette prioritized optimizing colour contrast for accessibility.
These viewbooks featured a minimalist campus illustration with bold use of the new UM logo and colour palette.
Student profiles required a mix of coordinating photo sessions, using supplied images, and sourcing imagery online.
Select spreads incorporated brand colour updates. Two blues were added as primary colours and a deeper brown was chosen.
